Negative self-talk is often defined as the inner dialogue we have with ourselves. It comprises the thoughts, qualms, and insecurities that come to us with regards to our self-image, our achievements, and our day-to-day lives. Negative self-talk is hardened by our past experiences and can have detrimental repercussions that influence our behavior and our state of mind.
B. Reasons Why People Talk Negatively to Themselves
People talk negatively to themselves for a variety of reasons. It can be the result of past experiences of trauma, failure, or fear. It can also be the result of biological predispositions or tendencies, personality factors, and environmental factors, such as a difficult upbringing or media messages that depict negative stereotypes of certain groups. Additionally, negative self-talk can stem from feelings of worthlessness, anxiety, or depression.
